How to Test Zoom Speakers and Microphone
Be sure to test your speakers and microphone before a meeting. It can be incredibly frustrating if you start a meeting only to find that your speakers aren’t working and you can’t hear the other person, or your microphone isn’t working and you can’t hear yourself.
Therefore, we recommend testing your speakers and microphone before the meeting.
1) Click the New Meeting button to open a meeting and check the settings. ▼
2) The first step is the Speaker and Microphone Test. This test checks whether your speakers and microphone are functioning properly. Clicking the Speaker and Microphone Test button will first output sound through your speakers. ▼
If you don’t hear any sound, there’s a problem with your computer’s speakers. You should resolve this before proceeding. If you can hear sound, click the Yes button to run the microphone test.
To test your microphone, simply speak into your own voice. If the Output Level field below fills with blue, your microphone is functioning properly. ▼
How to Mute Your Microphone in Zoom
Surprisingly, many people ask how to mute their microphone.
Click the Audio Connection button in the bottom left corner and then click the Audio Settings button to open the Settings window. ▼
When the Settings window appears, you’ll immediately see a window where you can adjust the microphone volume. Adjusting the microphone volume all the way to the left will set your microphone volume to 0, preventing your voice from being output. However, this setting requires you to open the Settings window again to unmute during the meeting, which can be inconvenient.
Below the microphone volume button, you’ll see the option “Mute my microphone when joining a meeting.” Checking this option will mute your microphone by default during the meeting.
Below that is the option “Hold the SPACE key to temporarily unmute myself.” Checking this option will allow you to hold down the spacebar when it’s your turn to speak, allowing your voice to be heard normally. ▼
Recording a Zoom Meeting
You’ll find the Record button in the bottom menu bar of the meeting window. Clicking it will record the current meeting.
How to Invite a Meeting
1) Click the circle icon in the upper right corner to display the meeting information. Copy the invitation link URL and send it to the people you want to invite. ▼
2) Alternatively, you can click the Participants button in the bottom menu bar and use the Invite feature. Click the Invite button and enter a contact number or email address to invite. ▼
